Ministers to crack down on fake reviews and hidden fees to save stretched families money

Companies will no longer be allowed to ‘drip feed’ extra charges when people pay for flights or concert tickets online under a crackdown drawn up by ministers.
Under the proposed overhaul, supermarkets would also have to simplify shelf labelling to make it easier for consumers to compare prices between products.
The new measures would protect customers making online purchases from being hit with extra charges such as ‘booking fees’ and ‘processing fees’, and offending firms would be fined.
Business minister Kevin Hollinrake said the measures ‘will ensure people have the most accurate information upfront before they make a purchase’.
A second consultation launched today will ask industry how to weed out fake online reviews posted by rogue operators.
