Teenager jailed after his own mother discovers a gun in his bedroom while tidying his room

A teenage drug dealer has been jailed after his mother make the shock discovery of a gun in her son’s bedroom while tidying.
Owen Walker, now 20, had stowed away the deadly firearm, which was wrapped in a towel, which was found by chance while his mother was hoovering and cleaning the teenager’s room last December.
Alarmed at the discovery of the pistol in her own home, on Green Lane, Worcester, she called the police and Walker’s father.
The gun was seized along with a mobile phone containing incriminating messages which linked Walker to drug dealing.
The teenager was bailed out following the discovery, but only eight months later was caught with a knife while out dealing an array of drugs in Worcester.
Owen Walker, now 20, pleaded guilty to several offences including including possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of a knife
On June 21, police were called to Gillam Street where Walker was found dealing drugs and on his arrest, officers caught him with 15 wraps of cocaine and a ‘large lock knife’, as well as hundreds of pounds in cash.
Police also searched through Walker’s house, seizing several deadly weapons including a knife, a machete and a mallet.
Walker, was also found to be in possession of cocaine and heroin, along with nitrous oxide canisters at the property.
Two mobiles were also seized from Walker linking him to drug dealing, including a video on his phone which showed Walker and his friends using the canisters, also known as whippets or laughing gas.
During another search of his home, police also found a bag containing 24g of cannabis.
Walker, who had no previous convictions, was sentenced to seven years at Worcester Crown Court, after admitting to several offences including possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of a knife.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing a psychoactive substance (nitrous oxide) with intent to supply and possessing cocaine and diamorphine and cannabis.
the judge imploring him that he could choose ‘a fruitful law-abiding life’ after leaving prison or ‘to engage in serious crime’, but that he could not make make that choice for him.

Judge Nicholas Cartwright added that he had been ‘immature’ and should have engaged with police after his first arrest last December, following his mother’s discovery of a firearm in his bedroom.
Defender Lee Masters said Walker had become addicted to drugs and had built up debts, which forced him into criminal lifestyle in order to pay those higher up in the drug-dealing chain.
He said that the young man ‘bitterly regretted’ being pulled into what he thought of as the ‘gangster lifestyle’.
Mr Masters also said that Walker’s family did not hesitate in ‘doing the right thing and calling police’ upon discovery of the gun last December.
He added Walker had weaned himself off drugs during his time in custody and was working towards getting a ‘legitimate job’.
