I went on a first date and was made to pay the £260 bill – I’ll never see him again but people say I’m in the wrong | The Sun
A WOMAN has sparked a heated debate regarding dating culture after she paid for the first date.
Annie Knight took to social media revealing she was stunned her date didn't offer to pay – but many claimed she was in the wrong.
The Australian 26-year-old posted a video on TikTok claiming she made just under £54,000 ($105,000) between 19 September and 19 October through online modelling – and thinks this could be why her date refused to cough up on the date.
In a post shared with her second TikTok account’s 33,700 followers, Annie said: “I went on a date the other night and he made me pay – it was $500 (£260).”
Annie explained that she had been talking to a guy on a dating app for a week before they decided to go to a restaurant together in Melbourne.
“We had a great dinner. He was pretty good. If had to rate the date I would probably say it was a seven out of ten – it was fine.

“We had lots of cocktails, a bottle of wine, it was lots of fun. And then I get up to go to the bathroom.”
Annie said that after her trip to the loo, the bill had been placed on the table and it ‘sat there for ages’.
She added that it felt more and more awkward the longer she waited to see if her date would bring up the bill – not that she expected him to pay for the full meal.
"Like I don't expect the guy to pay but I always expect them to at least offer and like if we go halves, like, that's so fine, I'm more than happy to do that," she added.

However she was stunned when the waitress came over and asked who was paying, only for her date to volunteer Annie to pay for the whole thing.
"He just looks at me and goes she's paying $500 and I assume that obviously he's seen all the stories and stuff about how much money I make and just thought I'd cut the bill," she said.
"Like, I don't care. I paid the bill."
But she said it was safe to say that she wouldn't be seeing him ever again.
The clip amassed over 45k views on her TikTok account @annieknight96 leading to a heated debate in the comments.
Some claimed Annie was in the wrong for saying she'd never see him again after she paid for the date.
One person wrote: " “So you will never see him cause you paid but if he paid it’s fine?”
Another commented: "So if he paid for the date and ghosted you, would you still have a problem with that?
Others though Annie was more than justified in calling it quits.
Meanwhile a third said: "Nah he should of paid. at very least go halves."
Someone else added: "Damn, I would personally pay or at least ask to split it."
