Strictly faces chaos as Shirley Ballas struck down with illness just before show

Strictly: Shirley Ballas reveals she’s come down with an illness

Shirley Ballas has shared a worrying health update, telling fans she has “caught something” just days before the first live show of Strictly Come Dancing airs this weekend.

The head judge took to Instagram from her bed and told fans that she is “not in work” and is “resting” ahead of Saturday’s show.

“What a difference a day makes. So, back from Rome where it was busy – lots of people and then in the studio for the Royal Albert Hall International Championships,” Shirley started.

“But yes, I think I have caught something.”

She managed: “So not very well today. Not in work, but want to rest and make sure that I am ready for Strictly on Saturday.”

The illness comes just days after Shirley experienced a gruesome injury at home.

The 63-year old last week shared a video on Instagram of herself standing in the kitchen with a bandaged hand.

She said: “Juicing today and look what I did. Nearly sliced off my thumb with this bad boy. Be careful when you’re juicing and when you’re washing up.”

In the second video, Shirley revealed that her mum, Audrey, had helped bandage up her thumb.

Shirley went on: “Morning so far. Yoga, cleaning flowers, juicing, cutting up thumb. Bandage on thumb that my mother has decided that she would do for me. So, we’ll have to see. It’s quite deep but let’s see how this holds up. Be careful juicing.”

It is not just the judges who have suffered injuries in recent days.

Celebrity contestant Ellie Leach also shared with fans that she experienced a small injury during rehersals.

The Coronation Street star posted an image on Instagram of her foot with a huge pink plaster covering her largest toe, captioning it: “Thumbs up from me.”
